Serv Wessex | The Blood Runners
We are a 100% volunteer service run solely on charitable donations.
SERV Wessex – The Blood Runners is a registered charity (No. 1156383) that delivers blood products, urgent samples and medication from Hospital Pharmacies. The service supports Hampshire, South Wiltshire and Dorset and operates 24/7.
Our operating costs per year is circa £35k and we need a further £25k to enable us to replace ageing vehicles coming to the end of their service life.
We normally operate 365 days per year, between 19:00 and 06:00 weekdays and 24hrs at weekends and on public holidays. On April the 1st we moved to a 24hr service by providing a daily medication and controlled drugs delivery service supporting Hospital Pharmacies delivering to vulnerable patients that are shielding due to the COVID 19 crisis.
SERV Wessex transports blood products and other urgent consignments allowing hospitals to divert financial and staff resources elsewhere.
All of our riders, drivers and volunteers donate their own time and fuel to provide a free service to hospitals.
We also run a continuous service to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to replenish the blood and plasma carried on the helicopter and their critical care cars.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life….
We need Riders, Drivers, Dispatchers, Fundraisers and General Administration volunteers to help us operate.
All the work doesn’t happen on the road, it’s a team effort – Dispatchers are a key and very important part of the team. Some of our drivers and riders are also Dispatchers.
If you are interested in getting involved as a rider/driver/dispatcher please ensure that you are familiar with our acceptance criteria as laid out in the ‘get involved’ drop down above. Or if you would like to help with events or becoming a sponsor, please contact us
